The registry lists private home respite care providers who have completed our free respite care provider training. The registry also has facility-based and agency-based environments that provide respite care.
How does the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition Respite Care Registry work?
Primary caregivers or family members who need respite care can search the registry and investigate the profiles of respite providers. The primary caregiver then contacts the respite provider to schedule an interview, request a background check, negotiate specific care needs, and the hourly rate to provide care.
How do respite care matches occur?
Primary caregivers create an account and then search the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition Respite Care Registry. After reviewing your results, the primary caregiver will contact the provider and:
arrange an interview, request a background check, and
Negotiate specific care needs and hourly rate to provide care.
How are background checks performed?
The New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition provides the Respite Care Registry, but does not explicitly endorse any participant. We encourage respite care providers to have a recent background check available to provide to primary caregivers.

Respite Care Association of New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition is not an employment agency and serves as a connector between primary caregivers and respite care providers.

Respite care providers listed on the registry are typically self-employed, employed by an outside agency, or hired directly by a self-directed consumer or primary caregiver.
It is the responsibility of those listed on this register or who use to do their due diligence to ensure that the match is suitable for both parties.
Who pays respite care providers?
It is the responsibility of the person receiving care to pay their respite care providers directly and make all employment-related arrangements.
