Lisa Richards, senior demonstration program director, and Alex Borgella, program assistant, flew to the AmeriCorps Seniors Convening in Arlington, Virginia, just before Memorial Day weekend. People from all over the country gathered for the first in-person conference of AmeriCorps Seniors since before the pandemic.
There were informative breakout and plenary sessions, meetings with AmeriCorps staff, and plenty of opportunities to chat informally with those running longstanding volunteer programs and brainstorm with new project directors. Along with four other New York State grantees, Lisa participated in a panel discussion “Response and Resilience: Leveraging National Service to Create Community Wellbeing and Impact.”
The group discussed responding to emerging needs and prioritizing diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, as well as how they got into this work and what keeps them coming back for more. View a recording of the livestreamed sessions |

LeadingAge’s LTSS Center @UMass Boston are still seeking volunteers to help us test an intervention designed to support long-distance caregivers of older adults with dementia. The study is funded by the National Institute on Aging.
The intervention, called LDCare, consists of skill-building, education, and support sessions designed to address the specific needs of long-distance caregivers and reduce their caregiving-related burdens. The seven sessions are conducted remotely by licensed social workers from the Family Caregiver Alliance. Participating caregivers attend the sessions using tablets that are provided, free of charge, by the research team. Here is more information:
