Online Respite Care Provider Certificate Program The Online Respite Care Provider Certificate Program through NYSCRC is up and running. It's FREE, open to anyone in NYS and is aligned with the National Competencies for Respite Care! Join learners from across the state who have completed this certificate program and gone on to provide respite privately, with an agency or even as a volunteer!
Coming soon, all individuals who complete the certificate program successfully can market themselves through the NYSCRC RESPITE CARE REGISTRY.
Every caregiver needs a break now and then—you may be the person they have been waiting for! Flexible hours, set your own pay, and most importantly, make a difference. NYSCRC's involvement in this multi-state pilot will end soon, but NYSCRC will continue to build on the curriculum and promote the registry. Now accepting Letters of Inquiry for our Spring 2023 grant cycle. The deadline to submit is January 31st and grants will be awarded at the end of May. Eligible counties include Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester Counties.
The Foundation supports programs and projects that directly improve the lives of low-income OLDER ADULTS and their CAREGIVERS. Priority is given to new and expanding programs that address their most basic needs, including: Food insecurity, home based care and aging-in-place services, social isolation, respite and support services for nonpaid caregivers, safety, security, social work/case management, and transportation for older adults, caregivers, and home health aides. Funding requests can range from $5,000 to $50,000+; requests for small capital projects can be for up to $15,000. Download the Letter of Inquiry Cover Sheet and instructions here.

2023 Omnibus Appropriations Bill Released
This week, after it was released by the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, President Biden signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, consisting of all 12 fiscal year 2023 appropriations bills. This funding package also includes emergency supplemental funding to respond to the devastation that recent natural disasters and extreme weather events have left behind, as well as emergency resources to support the Ukrainian people and protect global democracy in the face of Russia's continued invasion of Ukraine.
In the Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education portion, the bill includes noteworthy funding increases for important programs and services for children and adults with disabilities, older adults and family caregivers.
The Labor-HHS-Education section outlined some noteworthy pieces: $10 million for the Lifespan Respite Care Program, an increase of $2 million above the FY 2022 enacted level. $205 million for the National Family Caregiver Support Program, an increase of $11 million above the FY 2022 enacted level. $2 million for a Direct Care Workforce Demonstration to identify and reduce barriers to entry for a diverse and high-quality direct care workforce, and to explore new strategies for the recruitment, retention and advancement opportunities needed to attract or retain direct care workers.
$400,000 for the Family Caregiving Advisory Council, to monitor the National Family Caregiver Strategy. |
2021 Profile of Older Americans Report Released (November 2022) |
The Profile of Older Americans is an annual summary of the available statistics related to the older population in the United States. Principal sources of data are the U.S. Census Bureau, the National Center for Health Statistics and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Profile illustrates the shifting demographics of Americans age 65 and older. It includes key topic areas such as future population growth, marital status, living arrangements, income, employment and health. This year's report includes a special section on family caregivers.
