Caregivers are everywhere. 42 million people provide informal care to older adults, medically fragile children, siblings, people with mental health concerns; caregivers include grandparents and family raising children who have experienced serious trauma and loss, those caring for loved ones with diagnoses like Alzheimer's/Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Diabetes and Cancer ... and the list goes on and on. Caregivers need support and caregivers need respite. Respite is simply a break for caregivers. Respite is an outcome; it does not need to be a formal service. This holiday season, look around you—look for the caregiver in your life, in your neighborhood, in your faith community, or in your workplace who might appreciate a break. Offer to help, give the gift of your time to a caregiver near you.

NYSCRC ASSISTANT DIRECTOR / AMERICORPS — SEE JOB DESCRIPTION BELOW |
In partnership with the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition, the Caregiver Wellness and Respite Center (CWRC) managed by SUNY Plattsburgh officially kicked off in June 2022. This program offers caregiver support through assessment, respite vouchers, education, and wellness opportunities. CWRC is available to caregivers located in the northeast serving Clinton, Franklin, Essex, Hamilton, Warren, and Washington counties. Caregivers located within this rural region of New York State are often struggling with little to no available resources. CWRC staff have been busy presenting the program within the local communities by attending health fairs and wellness events, and collaborating with local agencies. Caregivers can apply for respite vouchers to take a much-needed break with the option to select their own respite provider. In addition to respite vouchers, CWRC hopes to offer volunteer respite opportunities through a drop-in program. Caregiver wellness activities such as yoga, hiking, book clubs, Tai chi, pickleball, craft activities, and music are available throughout the year in collaboration with the SUNY wellness caregiver events. We look forward to assisting caregivers within this area as the program continues to grow.

$3 Million Workforce Initiative Coming to Oneida, Herkimer, Lewis, Cortland, Tompkins and Jefferson Counties.
Under the grant, the coalition will recruit and train 300 people 55 and older to provide respite for people caring for older adults and those with disabilities. Respite gives caregivers a several-hour break from their responsibilities. People who provide respite with incomes below 400% of the poverty line will be eligible for two-year stipends to increase income. Four hundred percent of the poverty line includes income under $54,600 for one person or $73,200 for a two-person household. The goal is to increase the respite workforce and help about half of the 300 people find non-subsidized work providing respite and caregiving assistance. Press Release
