Thank you to the thousands of AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who lift up and build up our communities! |
We plan to recruit, train and place 300 volunteers, 55 and older, to provide a break to caregivers in Tompkins, Cortland, Herkimer, Oneida, Lewis and Jefferson counties. This $3 million dollar initiative, funded by AmeriCorps, will expand respite to those who care for older adults and persons with disabilities while providing a stipend to the volunteers. Volunteers will also be eligible for additional workforce training if they are interested.
Volunteer Stations throughout the six counties will manage the training and support of local volunteers. |

If this project interests you, we also have REMOTE employment opportunities within the designated counties! |

Proposed Federal Rule Would Support Kinship/Grandfamilies within the Foster Care System |
Generations United is very pleased to share that the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), has proposed that child welfare agencies around the country adopt licensing or approval standards for kinship/relative foster family homes that are different from the standards used for non-kin foster family homes. This is a significant move forward for the thousands of children who are placed with kin in foster care and yet do not receive monthly payments to meet their needs – payments that children with non-kin in foster care receive.
This proposed change advances equity for children in kinship foster care, including the disproportionate numbers of children who are Black or Indigenous or living in underserved rural areas.

Keep the Spotlight on Funding for Kinship System of Care | | |
The people who make New York’s laws – our NYS Senators and Assembly members – receive hundreds of requests each year for policy changes or program funding. Elected officials and their staff members track the number of times they hear about an issue – by letter, email, phone call or in-person meeting. When they get input on an issue, they are better able to understand what matters to the people they represent when they're in Albany. You can help make a difference!

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released an online training course and a series of resources that offer strategies and information on topics such as self-direction of home and community-based services, emerging strategies for states and strengthening the direct service workforce in rural areas.
